Steph’s Story

Nobody can describe the feeling when your mom & best friend is diagnosed with cancer. I was lucky that my mom had the best attitude to her diagnosis.

My mom was diagnosed with incurable lung cancer in January 2019, she started chemo straight away, which was followed by the cancer spreading to her brain. She had to have brain surgery & this was followed by radio therapy! It was the hardest 9 months of our life, mom was admitted to hospital on many occasions. She was the most positive person I’ve ever met in my life.

I will definitely take this with me through my life. The thought of going through life without her meeting my children, being at my wedding & watching me grow breaks my heart every single day. If I could tell everyone who still has their mom/dad/brother/sister/son/daughter tell them every single day that you love them, because you’ll never know when the last time will be.

I will never forgive myself for not being there for my mom when she passed away, she was alone & I was on a weekend away with my boyfriend, receiving the worst phone call the next day sticks with me everyday. I can still hear my dad’s voice and remember exactly how he told me.

My mom was the kindest, loveliest & most wonderful person you’d ever want to meet, you’d want to be her friend if you met her. She literally made the most life, created memories & took so many photos! She really loved life and it is absolutely heartbreaking she got taken away from us so soon.

My mom fought her hardest to beat cancer but unfortunately September 2019 it took her away from us, she battled for 9 hard months and we couldn’t of asked her to have done anymore. She was the strength of the family. The one everyone would turn to for advice. She always knew what to say to make everything better. I miss her advice and wise words. I will make sure my children know every little thing about their nanny Dawn, they’ll grow up knowing how brave and strong she was until the very end.

Love you always mamma bear

She has left behind her 2 daughters, 2 son-in-laws & 1 gorgeous grandson (dog) who miss her every single day!
