Patti’s Story

This is my Mom's love story. She adopted me as a baby and then I had the ultimate opportunity to reciprocate her love as the care partner for my Mom, Linda. My Mom lived (and thrived!) under my care despite her type 1 diabetes and mixed dementia. I cared for her full time for about three years and my goal was to find joy every day as her care partner. It is true partnership between us and you could find us creating, singing, laughing and loving together every day!  

She had always dreamed of going to Disneyland, but my Dad being the guy he was, she never had the opportunity to go. A month before she passed, mid-stage dementia and in a wheelchair I flew her to California and we went to Disneyland. Although she ultimately passed the following month, the memories we made on that trip are something that I hold dear to my heart when I think of our caregiving journey. 

Sadly, my Mom passed in March 2022, but I am living in her light every day. I am continuing to share our story, advocate for other caregivers and hopefully help change the stigma around dementia.
