Resources for Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day can be a particularly hard day and the weeks before it can be tough too. I’ve pulled together some resources that I’ve found helpful on those days when I’m feeling down or I’m trying to avoid my feelings. I hope you find these helpful! If you find something that really resonates with you, please send me a message! I’d love to include resources you’ve found useful on the main Motherlove Resources page.

  • Headspace: I’ve been using Headspace for about eight years and it’s been an amazing resource when I’m feeling overwhelmed, sad or stressed. I try to use it a couple of times a week and I’ve got my daughters using it too to help them relax before bed or after my teenager has had a difficult day. We’re a Headspace family but there’s also Calm and other meditation apps. You can get a Headspace free trial for two weeks. It’s worth it just to get through Mother’s Day or other triggering days of the year.

  • What’s your Grief: The women who founded What’s your Grief are both motherless daughters, therapists and grief educators. They’re awesome and their resources are fantastic. Short and to the point, you’ll find lots here for both you and your friends and family who want to learn more about supporting a griever. Check out this great blog post from a motherless daughter.

  • Dr. Mary-Frances O’Connor: Neuroscientist Mary-Frances O’Connor is one of my new favourite experts. She is a leading voice on how grief affects the brain and her research is incredible. She has a fantastic book but her site also has her Ted Talk as well as links to shorter interviews and articles.

Be gentle with yourselves. The day will pass and you’ll get through it, whatever that looks like.

Sending you a big hug,

Janet
